Gavin Cologne-Brookes
Paris Paintings is inspired by writer and artist Gavin Cologne-Brookes' time in the French capital. Much of this collection is set in art museums, especially the Louvre, offering meditations on the relationship between art and reality. Others are based on his discoveries whilst travelling around the city on public transport, foot or by bike. Over the five years he lived abroad, whilst observing the everyday life of Parisians, Gavin also wrote a memoir, Portraits from Paris: School and Travel Remembered from the City of Light.
Gavin Cologne-Brookes is Professor Emeritus at Bath Spa University, where he taught American and European writing from 1992 until his move to France in 2019. His books include The Novels of William Styron: From Harmony to History; Dark Eyes on America: The Novels of Joyce Carol Oates; Rereading William Styron, and American Lonesome: The Work of Bruce Springsteen, as well as his upcoming memoir which will be published in May.
He has work on permanent display at the Rothermere American Institute, University of Oxford. He has previously exhibited in Wiltshire and also at the Zari Galley, London. His paintings are held in private collections across the globe.
Paris Paintings will be showing at The White Horse Gallery from Friday 7th March – Sunday 30th March 2025 during shop opening hours.
