NEW EXHIBITION

Lawrie Baldwyn

The White Horse Gallery is delighted to announce a new exhibition, artworks by renowned British artist, Lawrie Baldwyn.

Lawrie’s artistic journey began at Ealing School of Art where he studied from 1958 to 1963. His first student exhibition was in 1962, where he was included in the ‘Young Contemporaries’ at the RBA Galleries. This was an important exhibition that promoted the best young talents in contemporary British painting. Largely run by students, the exhibition managed to attract considerable attention. Amongst the fellow exhibitors were Peter Blake, David Hockney, Frank Bowling, Patrick Procktor and Patrick Caulfield. It served as an early platform for British Pop Art.

Lawrie later worked for Harkers Scenic Studios in London, painting scenery for opera and theatre productions including the Royal Opera House, Welsh National Opera and various West End theatre and musical productions.

In 1968 Lawrie was appointed Head of the Drawings and Watercolour Department at Folio Fine Art, affiliated to the Folio Society. In 1971, having left Folio Fine Art, Lawrie continued to pursue his painting career.

This exhibition will be open from  Friday 2nd August - Sunday 25th August, during shop opening hours. To view the exhibition catalogue online, please click on the link below.
