Iron, Stone and Steam: Brunel's Railway Empire
Tim Bryan
Britain was transformed in the C19th as the railways were invented, developed, and rolled out across the country. Isambard Kingdom Brunel is a name synonymous with this expansion in engineering – engineer, architect and entrepreneur, his energy and achievements are central to the creation of modern Britain.
In Iron, Stone and Steam Tim Bryan, Director of the Brunel Institute at the SS Great Britain in Bristol, has written a new biography of this complex genius, chronicling his many successes - and occasional spectacular failure.
The book will be of interest to general readers as well as transport enthusiasts. Tim will be talking about his book at the White Horse Bookshop on Thursday 30th November, at 6pm.
Tickets (First Class seats only!) are £5, to include a glass of wine. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking here, over the telephone on 01672 512071, or in person.
