Yarning The Land - Textile Art Exhibition ‘Yarning the Land’ is an exhibition of textile art, by artists Gemma MacLennan and Barbara Touati-Evans. Together, they aim to “tell stories of the land and the differing ways we relate to it in the modern world”. The artists were inspired by a drive through the Marlborough Downs and further afield across Wiltshire, developing the idea to create a large-scale collaborative piece of free-form crochet, as well as a portfolio of individual work, focusing on the different aspects and perspectives of the landscape seen by both artists. "Our research for the exhibition involved viewing the landscape around Marlborough in different ways; driving through it, walking through it and also viewing it remotely via images taken from both very far away and very close-up (aerial images of fields and roads, photographs of the microscopic structure of chalk). Working from this research we have drawn together our artistic interpretations, both individually and collaboratively, of our experience of the local landscape for this exhibition." 'Yarning the Land' will run from Wednesday 4th April to Saturday 28th April. On Saturday 7th April (this weekend coming), you are invited to join us and the artists to celebrate the opening of the exhibition, between 12-2pm. As always, there will be wine. We look forward to seeing you!
